6 Star Energy Rating
The Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) uses a 10-star rating system to assess the thermal performance of dwellings across Australia.
As of May 2011 the NCC required all new dwellings to achieve a minimum of 6 stars to show compliance for a building approval ( exc. NSW and NT )
The 6-star requirement can be demonstrated using one of two methods of assessment: a NatHERS software assessment or a Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) elemental provisions assessment, both complying under Section 3.12 of NCC Volume 2.
This national assessment involves thermal modelling of each individual room in a house to determine the modelled heating and cooling loads.
As of May 2024, the new 7-star requirement is mandated. However, certain states and territories are still adopting the older 6-star code for the time being. NRG Efficient Homes is continuing to conduct 6-star assessments for our clients as required.
